About me
My professional & educational journey
BSc (Hons) Computing → Front-end development → Design

My BSc in Computing gave me a solid foundation across the discipline and first sparked my interest in design. As well as designing various websites, applications, and games, with a consistent focus on designing to meet user needs, I also developed them.

After graduating, I joined iWeb, an e-commerce agency, as a front-end developer. This was a rewarding career path for me in many ways. I became better at developing websites, enjoyed cross-collaborating with stakeholders, and learnt the value of a great user experience, but, I missed the fulfilment I felt designing. I was only playing the notes, rather than composing the song.

Following working as an e-commerce assistent, a self-employed reseller, and a career break to manage a family matter (now resolved), I began pursuing my career in design. I completed a Digital Marketing with AI bootcamp to strengthen my understanding of user behaviour, user-focussed content creation and following data-driven insights. I deepened my understanding of user needs and pain points across the user journey, and learnt the signifiance of design from a business perspective.

As I'm now building my career as a designer, re-engaging with designing to meet user needs and behaviours has reignited my sense of fulfilment. I'm enjoying learning how cognitive biases, such as the aesthetic-usability effect, are applied in effective design.

My BSc in Computing gave me a solid foundation across the discipline and first sparked my interest in design. While I gained the technical skills required to develop various websites, applications and games, what truly fulfilled me was designing them.

After graduating, I joined iWeb, an e-commerce agency, as a front-end developer. This was a rewarding career path for me in many ways. I became better at developing websites, enjoyed cross-collaborating with stakeholders, and learnt the value of a great user experience, But, I missed the deeper fulfilment of design. I was only playing the notes, rather than composing the song.

Following my time in e-commerce, and a career break to manage a family matter (now resolved), it was time to begin pursuing my career in design. I completed a Digital Marketing with AI bootcamp to strengthen my understanding of user behaviour, user-focussed content creation and following data-driven insights. This not only deepened my understanding of user needs and pain points across the user journey, but also taught me the signifiance of design from more of a business perspective.

I'm now building my career as a designer, and re-engaging with user needs and behaviours has reignited my sense of fulfilment. I'm fascinated by the subtle design choices that influence behaviour, like why we associate rounded buttons with comfort and approachability, and I'm enjoying learning how cognitive biases, such as the aesthetic-usability effect, are considered and applied in effective design.

Outside of work

I enjoy staying active, mainly through playing badminton and football, keeping fit at the gym, and spending time outdoors. I love listening to a wide range of music genres, and I play the keyboard and piano. I'm naturally curious, open-minded, and always willing to try new experiences. I aim to strike a balance between working hard and having fun.
